Ashford nail bar could face £20,000 fine for employing illegal worker after immigration raid

An Ashford nail bar faces a potential fine of up to £20,000 for employing an illegal worker unless it proves the appropriate checks were made.

Laura’s Nails in Station Road was visited by immigration enforcement officers acting on intelligence at around 3.30pm on Tuesday (February 21).

Immigration checks on staff found that a 35-year-old Indian woman had overstayed her visa.

She was ordered to report regularly to the Home Office while her case is progressed.

The officers also encountered a minor from Vietnam who was passed into the care of social services.

Laura’s Nails has been served with a notice warning that a financial penalty of up to £20,000 for employing an illegal worker will be imposed unless it can demonstrate that appropriate right to work checks were carried out on staff.

These could include seeing a passport or Home Office document confirming permission to work.
